Ghazal Refalian is an architect and researcher with a master’s degree in architecture technology. She is currently pursuing a PhD at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), where her research focuses on innovative coding techniques for geometric patterns. Ghazal began her professional career in 2005 and has since worked on various collaborative projects related to computational design, design processes, digital form finding, and digital fabrication. Since 2013, she has been particularly interested in patterned surfaces and the integration of digital fabrication methods with pattern design in art and architecture. To support her passion, she has developed an add-on for the Grasshopper plugin in Rhino3D, which facilitates digital visualization of star patterns. Furthermore, she is the founder of the Patternitecture platform, which aims to support research, design, and fabrication of pattern-based designs in the field of the built environment. Additionally, she organizes biennial events such as exhibitions and lecture series in Tehran. Currently based in Barcelona, she collaborates with CM Creative International as a senior architect, focusing on the development of physical and virtual exhibition spaces.
